Hey Sis, Let’s Talk Social Media—Without the Overwhelm!
If you’re a woman over 40 building a business, you already know that social media is a game-changer. But let’s be real—figuring out where to start can feel like learning a new language. The good news? You don’t have to be a tech whiz to make social media work for you. In fact, you can grow your business, attract clients, and make sales by following a few simple steps. If you’ve read my other posts, like How to Learn Tech Skills After 40 Without Feeling Overwhelmed, you know I’m all about keeping things simple. This one’s no different—let’s break it down together!
Step 1: Choose the Right Platform—Not All of Them!
Sis, I see too many women trying to be everywhere at once—Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok… whew! That’s a one-way ticket to burnout. The key is to focus on where your ideal clients hang out. Here’s a quick guide:
- Facebook: Great for community-building, Facebook Groups, and engaging posts. If you’re a service-based business, this is a must.
- Instagram: Perfect for visual branding, product-based businesses, and showing behind-the-scenes moments.
- LinkedIn: Ideal for professional networking and establishing credibility. If you’re a coach or consultant, don’t skip this!
- TikTok: If you love video and have an engaging personality, this is a goldmine—but only if your audience is here.
Action Step: Choose ONE platform to focus on for the next 60 days. Master it before moving on to another. Know where you audience is. If you are not sure about your audience, feel free to reach to me so we work it out together.

Step 2: Create Content That Connects
Now that you’ve chosen your platform, what do you post? Content that speaks to your audience! Here’s a simple formula:
- Educational: Teach something useful. Example: “3 Mistakes Women Over 40 Make on Social Media”
- Inspirational: Share your journey. Example: “How I Started My Business at 45 and Made My First Sale”
- Promotional: Tell people how to work with you! Example: “Join My Free Digital Skills Webinar This Saturday”

Step 3: Be Consistent (Without Posting 24/7)
You don’t need to post 10 times a day to grow. Here’s a realistic schedule that works:
- 3-4 posts per week (mix of educational, inspirational, and promotional)
- 1-2 stories per day (quick updates, behind-the-scenes)
- 1 video per week (can be a live video, reel, or pre-recorded content)
Pro Tip: Use a scheduling tool like Facebook Creator Studio (for Facebook & Instagram) or Buffer to plan your posts in advance. This way, you’re not glued to your phone! This has helped me a lot. I usually choose a day where I schedule for the whole month.
Step 4: Engage and Build Relationships
Social media isn’t just about posting—it’s about connecting with people. Here’s what to do:

- Reply to comments (Show your audience you care!)
- Engage with others (Like & comment on similar business pages)
- Join groups (Especially Facebook groups where your ideal clients are)

Step 5: Use Simple Videos to Boost Visibility
Sis, video is powerful—but don’t let it intimidate you! You don’t need fancy equipment or long scripts. Start small:
- Record a 30-second intro video about what you do
- Share a quick tip in a 60-second reel
- Go live for 5 minutes sharing something valuable
People love seeing your face and hearing your voice—it builds trust fast.

Step 6: Track What’s Working (and Adjust!)
After 30 days, look at your insights (each platform has them). Pay attention to:
- Which posts got the most engagement?
- What times do people respond best?
- Are you getting more followers, messages, or sales?
Adjust your content based on what works instead of guessing!
Final Thoughts—You Got This, Sis!
Social media isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up, connecting, and sharing your value.
Start with ONE platform, create content that speaks to your audience, and engage daily in small ways.
Over time, it gets easier, I promise!
